The Accommodation

The creative retreat consists of 2 houses for participants.

Bankhead is an 18th century house in the heart of the old village with 3 bedrooms with views over to the harbour and the sea. It is only a few minutes walk from the harbour, the beach and the main studio. It also has a small studio for use of residents. The accommodation is over 3 floors and there is room for 4 workshop participants (in 2 twin rooms) plus Gillian. A wood burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen, central heating and extra blankets. You can see full details  and photographs here.

Stroma is a 19th century granite house that was formerly the house of a wealthy fisherman. Two minutes walk from the beach and harbour it has a large open plan living/dining/kitchen area also with a large studio space for use of residents. Again the comforts of a wood burning stove, a fully equipped kitchen, central heating and extra blankets along with many extras you can see full details  and photographs here. Six workshop participants will be staying here in 3 twin rooms.

All bedding and towels are provided.

Fees are based on double occupancy accommodation.

The Studio

All classes will take place in the separate fully equipped art studio that has windows on 3 sides and stunning views over the Gardenstown Bay.

Catering.

The course fee includes breakfast, refreshments and a light lunch. It will be a case of… the fridges and cupboards are full – help yourself! Cereals, fruit, the makings of continental style breakfasts and all the makings of your choice of packed lunches. All will be there on your arrival and an on-going shopping list for replacements/fresh food.

You will have the opportunity to state any dietary requirements on the registration form that will be sent to you and I will do my utmost to cater for your needs.

Evening meals are not included in the fee – there is a small local store and a hotel and café but there are other options too – a wee chat with local boat owners/fisherman for the catch of the day, a bbq on the beach weather permitting? Who knows – we can take each day as it comes.  Also you will have to try haggis.

Materials List for the workshop.

There will be basic materials provided in the studio for you which will include…

Drawing Paper, Watercolour Paper, Pastel Paper

Gesso, White Acrylic Paint, White Pastels, Charcoal, Masking Tape

There will be an additional materials list provided closer to the class date for you to bring – most materials you will probably already have and any you cannot get you will be able to order via Gillian.

Should you have any questions regarding any aspect of the course you can email Gillian at mail@gillianleesmith.com or message via the Workshop Facebook Page here.
